Screener Accreditation Scheme

The Department of Home Affairs Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre (CISC) Screener Accreditation Scheme applies to all aviation and maritime security screeners involved in screening passengers and their baggage, as well as those screening air cargo.

The Scheme has been introduced to bring a nationally consistent approach to the training of screening officers in Australia, and to ensure all screeners meet required performance standards.

Under the Scheme, all screeners must be accredited, and must maintain their accreditation through an annual accreditation testing program.

All industry participants who employ or engage screening officers are required to ensure their screeners maintain the mandated level of competency.

CONSISTENT STANDARDS

Under the Screener Accreditation Scheme, all screening officers must:

  • Complete a Certificate II in Transport Security Protection (Cert II TSP), unless employed prior to 16 January 2022 and not ceased being a screener

  • Hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)

  • Wear a distinct and recognisable uniform

  • Undertake 40 hours of on-the-job training and 12 hours of continuing professional development per annum

  • Pass annual accreditation testing

Screeners will not be able to independently undertake screening duties until they have successfully completed accreditation testing, and must continue to pass accreditation testing each year to maintain their accreditation.
